The annual Hari Raya Light Up is finally here! From now until the 30th of June 2018, be immersed in the Malay culture of Singapore. The 2.25km light-up is decorated with larger-than-life light displays which stretch along the streets of Sims Avenue, Geylang Road and Changi Road. Featuring this year’s theme - “Celebrating our kampung spirit”, the light-up installations incorporates traditional Malay heritage icons to represent the Malay culture and history.
Also spanning the areas around Geylang Road, the hugely popular Geylang Serai Bazaar returns from 12th May to 14th June 2018. With over 800 stalls offering a wide variety of traditional food, fashion accessories, textile, handicrafts, furniture and lamps, you will bound to find a keepsake.
A trip to the bazaar is simply not complete without sampling the variety of traditional Malay food, cakes and pastries. Take your pick from Dendeng (Malay version of the Chinese bak kwa made with beef), Putu Piring (steamed dessert served with coconut shavings), Ramly burger, pineapple tarts, ‘ondeh-ondeh’ (made with palm sugar fillings), fried quail and more.
If you are in Singapore during Ramadan, do not miss the opportunity to experience the rich Malay heritage, and when Hari Raya Aidilfitri comes around, greet our Muslim friends with a joyous “Selamat Hari Raya”.
